What is a root canal treatment?
Root canal treatment (also known as endodontic treatment) is a treatment that can be performed when the blood or nerve supply of a tooth becomes damaged or infected through decay or injury.
Is it painful?
No. A local anaesthetic is used and it should feel similar to having a filling done.
What does the treatment involve?
The treatment involves cleaning out any infected tissues from the root of a tooth using special files and instruments. After cleaning, the root and tooth are filled and sealed to prevent against any further infections. Once this treatment is completed and after a suitable healing period, a crown is usually placed to protect the treated tooth.
